Ruth Staresinic Obituary

Ruth J. Staresinic, 94, of Vincentian Home and Terrace Place, formerly of Shaler, peacefully in her sleep on December 31. Born on October 5, 1930 to Nicholas and Clara Gerdun, Ruth grew up in Cherry City and graduated from Shaler High School. After working for many years, she married the love of her life, Ray Staresinic, with whom she enjoyed 56 happily married years. Ruth loved to engage with people, whether in conversation or written word as she was a prolific letter writer. She was proud of her Slovenian heritage and passed it along to her extended family. Ruth was a life-long Parishioner and Volunteer at St Ann/Holy Spirit, now St. Matthew. Ruth was always willing to apply her talents to whatever needed to be done for her parish, her sons’ schools, and those around her. She also greatly enjoyed her volunteer work at Divine Providence Hospital for 25 years. She was preceded in death by her husband Ray, parents, sister Barbara Wilkinson, brother Edward, her brother and sisters-in-law, and many beloved relatives and friends. Ruth is survived by her loving sons Kenneth (Maria) of Mercer, Stephen (Monika) of Stuttgart, Germany, and Gregory (Barbara) of Gibsonia, grandchildren Claire, Allison, Anna, Tara, Robert, her sister-in-law Jackie Gerdun, and nieces and nephews. Ruth’s life will be celebrated with a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, January 11, at 10:00 AM at St. Alphonsus Church site (St. Aidan Parish, Wexford, PA).Everyone, please meet at the Church. There will be a visitation on Friday, January 10, at Hahn Funeral Home in Millvale from 4-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, Ruth would be delighted if you donate to the charity of your choice.
