Regis Komraus Obituary

Regis D. Komraus, of Shaler Twp, passed peacefully on Friday, May 3, 2019, at the age of 89. Born in Etna to Otto and Marie (Tabrosky); Devoted Husband of the late Theresa Rose (Silneck); Loving father of Regis (deceased), Mark, Valerie Evans and Diane Ober; Grandfather of Adam, Amanda Jazbinsek, Addison Ober, and Aubrey Ober. Survived by a brother, Thomas. Preceded in death by siblings, Germaine Coleman, Roy, Rita Chamberlain,and Violet.

Regis met his wife, Theresa, through mutual friends at a dance. They shared 50 years together, until Theresa succumbed to ALS, living her final days under Rege's care in they home they build together. The family attended St. Anthony's Church (now Holy Spirit) in Millvale.

Reg worked as a structural steel rigger, before being called to serve in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sargent.  He attended Penn Technical Institute, and worked for most of his life as a project manager in industrial construction. Regis' work took him to Alabama, Georgia, New York, Texas, Canada, China, Mexico, and even back to reconstructed South Korea. During his semi-retirement, he worked for Bayer Corp and Northwood Reality.

 

He served in the Knights of Columbus for 50 years. He enjoyed playing cards, sports (particularly, Steelers Super Bowls), fishing, and gardening. In his retirement, Regis enjoyed helping his children build and renovate their homes, activities with his grandchildren, and travel abroad. Persuing his love of music and dance, Regis was a member of the Holy Spirit Choir, the Teutonia Mannerchoir, and G.T.E.V.D'Lustigen Isartaler- with which, at the time, he performed as the oldest active Schuhplattler in the United States.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 21, 2019 at 10 AM at Holy Spirit Church, Millvale. Interment with Military Honors at St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Afterwards, friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life and luncheon. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the VFW Foundation.
