Patricia Mae Young

Patricia Mae Young, lovingly known as Patty, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at the age of 84. A longtime resident of Pittsburgh, PA, Patty will be remembered for her gentle kindness and creative spirit. From a young age, she was drawn to art, inspired by the encouragement to sketch and paint. An accomplished plein air artist, Patty gained widespread admiration for her pastel paintings that captured the beauty of the natural world. Patty’s work hung in numerous local galleries and was featured in regional plein air and pastel exhibitions. She shared her talent generously—attending workshops, mentoring fellow artists, and participating actively in several art leagues. Among her favorite painting locations were the serene landscapes of Martha’s Vineyard, the vibrant vistas around Albuquerque, New Mexico, and the rolling hills of southwestern Pennsylvania. Beyond her artistry, Patty was a dedicated gardener and an active member of her local garden club. Her green thumb and love for nature extended seamlessly into her artwork. Patty’s adventurous spirit took her across the country and around the world, enriching her life and art with diverse perspectives. Whether tending her garden, exploring new horizons, or capturing fleeting moments on canvas, she lived with grace and purpose. Her legacy of creativity, kindness, and love for life will continue to inspire all who knew her. Patty leaves behind a tapestry of cherished memories and an indelible mark on the hearts of her family, friends, and fellow artists. Patty was preceded in death by her second husband, Forrest Young. Patty is survived by her longtime companion, Emerick Buccigrossi, her first husband, Leo Stember, her children, Debra Stember, Laura Stember, Becky Maung (Mike), Lee Stember (Julie Saunders), her stepson Matthew Young (Abigil Ruth), her eight grandchildren, and her four great-grandchildren. Patty will be cremated, and a Celebration of Life Memorial will be held in the spring or summer.
