Louis Harkcom Obituary

Louis Frank Harkcom of Ross Township, formerly of Cranberry Township and the neighborhood of Bloomfield, died peacefully in his sleep on October 16, 2024 due to complications from emphysema. He was 81 years old. Lou was born in Pittsburgh on March 31, 1943 to Ann Marie (Obermeier) and Luther Harkcom. He studied at Central Catholic High School, before serving in the Navy during the Vietnam War, and then embarking on a lifelong career with the U.S. Postal Service. In 1968, he met Theresa Korey, and it was love at first sight -- they were married for over 55 years, 5 of them happy (one of Lou’s favorite jokes). He was known for his sense of humor and love of “a good cigarette,” which ultimately did him in. But most of all, Lou was known for his charismatic nature, as evidenced by his numerous friends. He was a good neighbor, a devoted husband and supportive father, teaching his children many things, chief among them, how to love. Lou is survived by his wife Theresa, eldest daughter Laura (Helmut) of Los Angeles, CA, to whom he passed on his appreciation for film and television, and favorite daughter Jennifer (Jesse), of Port Jefferson, NY, who inherited his quick wit. He is also survived by beloved grandchildren Jacob, Julia, and Athena, brother-in-law Raymond Korey of Ross Township, first cousins Joseph Obermeier of West Warwick, RI and David (Kathy) Obermeier of Allison Park, PA, as well as nephews David Obermeier (Clara) of Bethesda, MD, Stephen Obermeier (Giselle) of Bethesda, MD, Daniel Obermeier (Lauren) of Potomac, MD, and niece Gretchen Obermeier (Willard) of West Warwick, RI. A Catholic mass will be held on Saturday November 30 at 10am at Holy Spirit Church, 608 Farragut St, Pittsburgh, PA 15209, followed by a short ceremony at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, 700 Soose Rd, Pittsburgh, PA 15209. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations to The Disabled American Veterans 1000 Liberty Ave #1606 Pittsburgh, PA. 15222
