Hazel Blum Obituary

Hazel Catherine (Mock) Blum died peacefully on the evening of July 21, 2021 in Pittsburgh, PA at the age of 99. Hazel is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years Edward L. Blum and her brother William (Bill) Mock and sister Julie Linn. She is survived by her sister, Virginia Schwartz. She is also survived by her children; Virginia (Ginger Blum) and Leo (Bud) Worst, Karen (Blum) and Tim Timchak. Hazel is survived by two grandchildren and families: Amanda (Worst) and Jeremy Freiss and Jacalyn (Worst) and Mark Marfisi. She was blessed with 3 great grandchildren: Austin James Freiss, Logan Edward Freiss and Laila Dell Marfisi. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Hazel was born on March 19, 1922 in Imler, Pennsylvania. She moved with her family to Pittsburgh, PA in 1925. She worked as a Bell Telephone Overseas Switchboard operator. The entire family attended church at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Bauerstown, PA. She met the love of her life, Ed at church in the choir. She was a Sunday school teacher and Youth Group leader for St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. They married March 30, 1951. She attended Christ Lutheran Church in Millvale and enjoyed volunteering at the Food Cupboard. She helped with any fund raiser that the Order of the Eastern Star was sponsoring. She was a Past Matron of Jephthah Chapter # 73 and a 50 Yr. member of the organization. After Ed’s retirement in 1986, she enjoyed traveling with him, especially to all the 1st Cav reunions. And they travelled all over the country in their motorhome. Many family vacations were planned around these reunions. She dedicated her life in service to others and her family was her heart's priority. Friends will be received Sunday – July 25, 2021 from 12-8pm at the Hahn Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. 123 North Avenue Millvale, Pa 15209. An Eastern Star funeral service will be at the funeral home on Monday, July 26, 2021 @ 10:30 am and A Celebration of Life Service is scheduled immediately following the Eastern Star service at 11:30 am. Wake at Greater Pittsburgh Masonic Center 3579 Masonic Way, Pittsburgh, PA 15237 in the Grotto Room at 1:00 pm.
