Anita
Landreau
d. Oct 28, 2026
Point Breeze
Anita Landreau, age 82, of Point Breeze, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, died peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on 10/28/2026 after a brave and grace-filled journey with a rare cancer.
Born in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, she was the oldest daughter of the late Mildred and Theodore Jester. Anita grew up in Taneytown, Maryland, and went on to become a proud graduate of American University. After staying home with her sons, she worked in several positions, including a number of years at Mellon Bank. Her special gift of kindness really shone in two of her last positions, however, working in the front offices of Persad Center and Metro Family Practice: she was the first smiling, welcoming face that clients encountered.Gratitude was her anchoring principle, and she credited her many years in Al-Anon for the gifts of gratitude and acceptance.Anita was always open to adventure. In her 20s, she spent a few years living in Bolivia. In her 30s she lived in a Turkish village and learned to weave rugs from the local women. Decades later, in her 60s, she embarked on another adventure, moving to Park Slope, Brooklyn for two years with her wife. But her favorite adventures were traveling to visit her sons and granddaughters in California, Hawaii, Washington state, and the Endless Mountains of Pennsylvania.Anita found her greatest joy in her family and her friends. She was a loyal and loving spouse, a fiercely devoted mother and grandmother, a caring big sister, and a steadfast friend to so many. She lived life with a vibrant spirit and loved staying active, whether she was enjoying water aerobics at the Jewish Community Center (JCC), engaging in friendly competition at the mah jongg tables at Vintage Senior Services or online, attending Osher classes at Pitt, playing bocce and croquet, meeting friends for coffee, or laughing and sharing a weekly meal with her longtime FND friends. At home, Anita appreciated the quiet moments of life. Her favorite place to be was sitting outside in her cherished little urban oasis with her wife or reading on their sun porch. She spent many peaceful hours looking at the trees, watching the squirrels, admiring the flowers, and reveling in the feeling of the breeze on her skin. Her kindness, warmth, and appreciation for life's simple pleasures will be deeply missed by all of us who knew and loved her. She was taken from us much too soon. She is survived by her loving wife of 32 years, Anne Candreva; her beloved sons and daughters-in-law, Christopher Landreau & Yuki Reiss and Geoffrey Landreau & Liliana Pezoa; her dear stepson and his wife, John Landreau & Sherri Grasmuck; her cherished granddaughters, Catalina, Anika, and Juniper; her step-grandchildren Tessa and Soren and their children Arlo and Sati; and her sisters, Patricia Gartmann (Achim) and Jacqueline Boisvert.Interment will be private at Penn Forest Natural Burial Park. A celebration of her life will be held in March 2027.The family requests that donations be made in Anita's honor to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and to the ACLU Foundation.
