Alfred "Fritz" Grego July 10, 1935 – December 5, 2024 Alfred "Fritz" Grego, 89, of Millvale, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2024, surrounded by his beloved family. A proud Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, Fritz's life was defined by service, love, and dedication to his family and community. Born on July 10, 1935, in Millvale, Fritz spent much of his life committed to the people and passions he cherished most. A 1953 graduate of North Catholic High School, Fritz played basketball for legendary coach Don Graham and was known as "Automatic Al" due to his steady hook shot. After serving his country with honor in the Korean War, Fritz returned home and became a cornerstone of his Millvale community. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and his home was always filled with love, laughter, and a welcoming spirit. A true lover of American tradition, Fritz was an avid enthusiast of hot rod cars. He took immense pride in his older cars, which reflected his meticulous nature and deep appreciation for craftsmanship. He would always say, "they don't make 'em like they used to." Fritz enjoyed golfing with his grandson, Tony, and spent many hours gardening and beautifying his property during the summertime. He also had a special place in his heart for Iron City Beer, a loyal fan of the local brew and the camaraderie it brought with friends. You would always see him with one in his hand.  His love for Millvale was unwavering, and he remained deeply connected to his hometown throughout his life. His pride in his roots and his close-knit ties to the community were felt by all who knew him. A devout Catholic, Fritz's faith reignited later in life, and he cherished his relationship with God through regular prayer and Mass attendance. He was the son of the late Alfred C. Grego and Freda (Paul) Grego, and the beloved husband of the late Mary (Koenig) Grego with whom he shared 53 years of marriage. Fritz has 3 daughters, Kimberly Grego (deceased), Sandra Grego and Gina (Jock) Janaszek and 4 grandchildren, Tony (Lacey) Grego, Jacob Janaszek, Samuel Riley and Anna Janaszek. Visitations will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, from 4:00 PM-8:00 PM, at Hahn Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 123 North Ave., Millvale, PA 15209. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at 10:00 AM, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 606 Farragut St., Millvale, PA 15209. In lieu of flowers, drink an Iron City in remembrance of Fritz. He was a supporter of many charities so please donate to one of your choice. Rest in peace, Fritz.
